Size Guide

Everything below is standard reference information you can check against any ring or watch you already own. It is general guidance, not a measurement of a particular item. Where a listing states a size, that figure comes from the manufacturer and is on the product page. Where a listing does not state one, we have not been given it – e-mail support@jouelanity.com before you order and we will ask our supplier.

Rings

US ring sizes are set by the inside circumference of the band. The simplest way to find yours is to measure a ring you already wear: wrap a strip of paper around the inside of it, mark where it meets, and lay the strip flat against a ruler in millimetres.

US size Inside circumference Inside diameter
5 49.3 mm 15.7 mm
6 51.9 mm 16.5 mm
7 54.4 mm 17.3 mm
8 57.0 mm 18.1 mm
9 59.5 mm 19.0 mm
10 62.1 mm 19.8 mm
11 64.6 mm 20.6 mm
12 67.2 mm 21.4 mm
  • Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are at their largest, and in a warm room. Cold hands can read a full size small.
  • A wide band sits tighter than a narrow one at the same nominal size. If a band is 6 mm or wider, many people go up a half size.
  • The knuckle has to pass first. If it is much larger than the base of the finger, size to the knuckle and expect a little movement.
  • We cannot resize rings, and a resized ring cannot be returned as a change of mind. Please be sure of the size before you order.

Necklaces and chains

Necklace length is the full circumference of the chain, clasp included. These are the standard US lengths and roughly where each falls on an average adult:

Length Where it sits
16 in (40 cm) At the base of the neck, like a choker on most adults
18 in (45 cm) On the collarbone – the most common length, and the one most pendants are sold on
20 in (50 cm) Just below the collarbone
22–24 in (55–60 cm) On the chest, above a low neckline

To check a length before ordering, cut a piece of string to the figure above, hold the ends together at the back of your neck and see where the loop falls. Where a listing gives a range such as 16–18 in, the chain carries an extender and can be worn at any point between.

Bracelets and bangles

Measure your wrist snugly just below the wrist bone with a tape or a strip of paper, then add for comfort:

  • Chain bracelets: wrist measurement plus about 1/2 in (1.3 cm) for a close fit, or plus 1 in (2.5 cm) to sit loose.
  • Bangles are measured by their own inside diameter, not by your wrist. A rigid bangle has to pass over the widest part of your hand: squeeze your hand as if putting on a glove, measure around the widest point, and compare that to the bangle’s circumference.
  • Expandable wire bangles – the sliding-wire type – adjust over a wide range and fit most adult wrists without a size being stated.

Watches

A watch is described by its case diameter, measured across the case excluding the crown. Case size is stated on a listing when the manufacturer publishes it; where it is not shown, we do not have it.

Wrist circumference Case diameters that usually suit
Under 6.5 in (16.5 cm) 28–36 mm
6.5–7 in (16.5–18 cm) 36–40 mm
7–7.5 in (18–19 cm) 39–43 mm
Over 7.5 in (19 cm) 42–46 mm
  • These are conventions, not rules. A larger case on a small wrist is a style choice, not a mistake.
  • Lug-to-lug – the distance between the points where the strap meets the case – matters more than diameter for whether a watch overhangs. If it is longer than the flat of your wrist, the watch will feel bigger than its diameter suggests.
  • Metal bracelets are sized by removing links. Any watch repairer can do this in a few minutes, and it is worth keeping the removed links. Do not resize a bracelet until you are sure you are keeping the watch – a resized bracelet cannot be returned as a change of mind.
