Description
Two parts are shown. The stud is a round ruby in a warm yellow-gold four-prong setting; the ruby is a strong pinkish red and shows the internal veiling and colour banding that mined ruby normally has. The separate jacket is a white-metal ring pave-set with small clear stones, which slips behind the stud to give the look of a halo.
The earring post is a screw fitting and its back is stamped 14K, so the stud mount is solid 14 karat gold rather than a plated finish. The halo jacket is made in a white metal against the yellow of the stud, which is where the two-tone effect comes from. Worn without the jacket the stud is small and plain; worn with it the earring roughly doubles in width.
It suits someone who wants one pair that works for the office and for an evening out. Store the jackets with the studs so they do not go missing, and keep the ruby away from ultrasonic cleaners.
